A save the date photo strip works because it feels like something guests can keep, not just a date announcement they need to remember. The format is compact, easy to mail and flexible enough for a digital message or a printed card. For more reception and guest-photo prompts, see our wedding photo booth ideas.
Eight photo strip save the date ideas
01
The date on the last frame
Use the first three frames for natural portraits and reserve the final frame for your names and wedding date.
02
The proposal sequence
Tell the story in four beats: the question, the surprise, the yes and the date to remember.
03
A location-led strip
Use one frame for the venue, one for the two of you and the last two for a simple date announcement.
04
The film contact sheet
Keep the frames lightly different, as if they came from one roll of film, rather than using four identical poses.
05
A guest magnet
Print the strip on a magnetic sheet or pair it with a small magnet so the announcement stays on the fridge.
06
The digital-first version
Send the strip by email or text first, then mail a printed copy to guests who would enjoy a physical keepsake.
07
A handwritten caption
Leave a small white caption area for a short line such as See you in June or Our next chapter.
08
The matching wedding set
Use the same frame, filter and type treatment for your save the date, invitation details and thank-you cards.
What to write on a save the date photo strip
Keep the wording short. Include your names, the month and day, the city if guests need to travel and a clear line such as Formal invitation to follow. The caption should support the pictures, not compete with them.

Pick a size that is easy to print and mail
A 2 x 6 inch strip is the most practical starting point because it fits common 4 x 6 print workflows. At 300 DPI, that is 600 x 1800 pixels. If you want a taller 2 x 8 design, plan the paper and envelope before you finalize the layout. The photo booth strip dimensions guide explains the tradeoff.
How to make a save the date photo strip
- Choose one visual direction: clean, vintage, black and white or warm film.
- Upload one to four engagement or couple photos to the photo strip maker.
- Use four-cut for a classic contact-sheet feel, or single Polaroid for one hero image.
- Add the date in the caption bar and check that it stays readable at print size.
- Download a PNG or JPG, then order one test print before making the full guest list.
Make the announcement personal
Start with the photos you already love, then let the strip carry the date. It is a small format, but it gives guests something tangible to keep.
