What does FLAMES stand for?

FFriends

LLove

The one people play the game to hear.

AAffection

A crush in progress. Warm, not yet declared.

MMarriage

The long-game answer kids take very seriously.

EEnemies

Bickering incoming. Settle it with a rematch.

SSiblings

Equivalent to family. Annoying, in a loyal way.

The rules

How the FLAMES game works, on paper or here

1

Write two names

Any two names work: your crush, your best friend, the couple you ship.

2

Cross out shared letters

Every letter that appears in both names gets cancelled once, case does not matter.

3

Count what is left

The remaining letters decide how long your count through FLAMES runs.

4

Eliminate to one

Count F-L-A-M-E-S in a circle, crossing off the letter you land on, until a single answer survives.

The FLAMES calculator runs the same count with names typed in, so a paper round and a round here always land on the same answer.

FLAMES calculator FAQ

Is the FLAMES calculator accurate?+

It follows the classic paper-and-pen rules exactly: shared letters are cancelled, the remaining count eliminates F-L-A-M-E-S one by one. FLAMES is a game, not a prediction.

Is FLAMES a love calculator?+

Similar idea, different output. A love calculator gives a match percentage, while the FLAMES game sorts two names into one of six relationships: Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies or Siblings.

What does FLAMES stand for?+

Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings. Each letter is one possible outcome for the two names you enter.

How do you play FLAMES on paper?+

Write both names, cross out every letter that appears in both, count the letters left over, then count through F-L-A-M-E-S repeatedly, crossing off the letter you land on until one remains.

Are the names I type uploaded anywhere?+

No. The calculation and the ticket drawing both happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Keep the moment

A love ticket today, a photo strip tomorrow

The ticket proves the answer. A retro photo strip of the two of you proves the moment happened.
